She returned to Norfolk on 22 September and remained in upkeep standing through 1 October. This group of transports and destroyers sailed from Manus and arrived at Leyte Gulf on 20 October. Japanese officers to act as observers for "ASWEX 5-70," a week-lengthy exercise which received underway on 22 October.
